Tax Petition Deadlines

The last day to serve and file tax petitions is: 04/30/2024

04/22/2024

This is the last day that we will accept tax petitions that we need to arrange with our out-state vendors. Please note that not all counties can be arranged and that there are some we have to drive to regardless of how much time we are given. Contact John Levesque ( jlevesque@metrolegal.com ; 612/349-9521) with any questions.

04/25/2024

This is the last day that we will accept tax petitions for Carver and Washington Counties. Carver County will only acknowledge the admission on the Original Tax Petition, therefore it must be brought back to our office to have copies made. Washington County will no longer sign the admission, therefor we have to return to our office and make Affidavits for each Tax Petition

04/26/2024

This is the last day that we will accept local tax petitions for the following counties: Hennepin, Ramsey, Dakota, Scott, Wright, Sherburne and Anoka.

The preferred way to submit a Tax Petition Request is to email RPService@metrolegal.com .

When requesting a Tax Petition service and filings please keep in mind that several counties require the original to be e-filed, which can take up to 24 hours to receive confirmation back from the District Court.

Holidays

In Minnesota, service of process cannot be made on specific holidays. Minn. Stat. 645.44 (Subd. 5) specifically lists the holidays recognized in Minnesota and then says..."Nor shall any civil process be served thereon."

Subd. 5: Holidays. "Holiday" includes New Year's Day, January 1; Martin Luther King's Birthday, the third Monday in January; Washington's and Lincoln's Birthday, the third Monday in February; Memorial Day, the last Monday in May; Juneteenth, June 19; Independence Day, July 4; Labor Day, the first Monday in September; Christopher Columbus Day, the second Monday in October; Veterans Day, November 11; Thanksgiving Day, the fourth Thursday in November; and Christmas Day, December 25; provided, when New Year's Day, January 1; or Juneteenth, June 19; or Independence Day, July 4; or Veterans Day, November 11; or Christmas Day, December 25; falls on Sunday, the following day shall be a holiday and, provided, when New Year's Day, January 1; or Juneteenth, June 19; or Independence Day, July 4; or Veterans Day, November 11; or Christmas Day, December 25; falls on Saturday, the preceding day shall be a holiday. No public business shall be transacted on any holiday, except in cases of necessity and except in cases of public business transacted by the legislature, nor shall any civil process be served thereon. However, for the executive branch of the state of Minnesota, "holiday" also includes the Friday after Thanksgiving but does not include Christopher Columbus Day. Other branches of state government and political subdivisions shall have the option of determining whether Christopher Columbus Day and the Friday after Thanksgiving shall be holidays. Where it is determined that Columbus Day or the Friday after Thanksgiving is not a holiday, public business may be conducted thereon.

Any agreement between a public employer and an employee organization citing Veteran's Day as the fourth Monday in October shall be amended to cite Veteran's Day as November 11.
